Lasting Powers of Attorney – Registration Fee Drop
Before a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is valid and can be used it must first be registered by the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG).
The OPG are a government body who provide protection for people who do not have capacity to make decisions for themselves. They deal with applications for LPAs (and Deputyships). A fee is charged when you apply to register an LPA.
As of 1 April 2017, fees for registering LPAs and Enduring Powers of Attorney (EPA) have been reduced from £110 to £82. In addition, the fee for re-submitting an LPA for registration has also been reduced from £55 to £41. Re-submission applies when an LPA has been rejected by the OPG and a repeat application has been made.
LPA Reduction Explained
The LPA fee for registration has been reduced as a result of the high number of applications the OPG has been processing along with their internal efficiencies. This combination has led to the cost of the service being driven down.
A substantial saving can now be made when registering an LPA. This should encourage even more people to make LPAs which provide peace of mind for themselves and their families.
