New Year, new Will? Why now is a great time to review your Will
2016 will long be remembered as a year which saw a number of historically significant events take place, many of which will have long lasting implications both at home and abroad. There may also have been changes to your life which could immediately impact the validity of your Will and other estate planning documents you have made.
With that in mind, the start of the new year is a good time to review your Will. For example, does your Will still reflect your wishes? Or do you want to add or remove beneficiaries? Or have you gotten married or divorced since making your Will? A change in your personal circumstance could have a legal impact on your Will and so these are just some of things you should be thinking about.
Or perhaps you make up the estimated two-thirds of the British public who have not yet made a Will? Dying without a Will in place means you have no say in what happens to your estate when you’re gone. It’s important to plan ahead particularly if you have minor children, own a property, have savings and investments or own a business.
